Welcome to an exhilarating winter adventure that takes us through the enchanting landscapes of Prespa, North Macedonia. Join us as we embark on the Kloni Trail, named after its proximity to the border with North Macedonia during the totalitarian era. This journey is not only about conquering the trail but also about discovering hidden gems, ancient churches, and the breathtaking beauty of nature in winter.

- The Beginning at Korça Alpin Club: The day starts with a gusty wind, creating an unpredictable atmosphere. After a refreshing cup of coffee at the Korça Alpin Club, our group, accompanied by friends from Discover Pogradec, eagerly begins the adventure towards the Prespa region.
- Kloni Trail – A Historical Walk: The Kloni Trail earned its name due to its historical significance, passing near the border with North Macedonia. In the totalitarian era, this area was fiercely guarded, earning it the title of the Kloni zone. As we traverse through this trail, the snowy landscapes and the occasional appearance of the sun create a magical winter setting.
- Venja’s Majesty and the Reflecting Lake: At an altitude of over 1200 meters, Venja stands tall, painting the trail with its vibrant greenery against the white canvas of snow and the gray backdrop of the sky. The surrounding mountains and the lake reflecting the blue sky contribute to the surreal beauty of the journey.
- Discovering the Hidden Gem – Church of the Cave of St. Mary: Our path unveils the Church of the Cave of St. Mary, a hermit church dating back to the 13th century. The well-preserved frescoes, attributed to the monk Partheni, depict the Virgin Mary and Little Jesus. The vibrant colors, clear lines, and emotional portraits showcase the rich spiritual and cultural heritage of the area.
- Monastery of St. Marina – A Spiritual Oasis: The adventure continues to the Monastery of St. Marina, a unique and tranquil place disconnected from the hustle and bustle of modern life. Surrounded by mist-covered Peristeri, the monastery provides a serene environment for pilgrims every July 30th.

- Tuminec and the Ancient Church of St. Mitri: The journey concludes in Tuminec, where a 15 km walk brings us to the ancient Church of St. Mitri, dating back to the 13th century. The church’s unique frescoes, characterized by bright colors and pronounced features, leave us in awe despite the mystery surrounding the artist.

As the day comes to an end, we find ourselves at the village club, sipping coffee and reflecting on the beauty and history witnessed on this winter wonderland adventure. The Kloni Trail and its surrounding treasures have not only challenged us physically but have also enriched our souls with the cultural and natural wonders of Prespa.
